6/5/2010

  1. Bakers racks are a nice touch if you have the room.  We carry an array of them and will match a lot of our dinettes.
  2. Hutches are also available in different sizes.
  3. A kitchen cart can add extra counter space if you don’t have enough cooking surface.
  4. A small backless stool can be tucked away in a corner or at the end of an island for extra seating.
  5. Protective table pads can also be purchased for wood table tops and can be custom fitted (table leaves included).

How To Not Interfere With Good Design

6/5/2010

Start With Style

Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to decorate a whole room at one time.  A piece at a time will give you good perspective on which item to select next. Start with a plan on which style you would like to do and add pieces as you go.

Measure

Measuring the room area is very helpful in choosing the right size of the furniture you will need or how many stools you may want to place around the island. For figuring out the proper table size for an area, place a template or even cardboard or newspaper on the floor to equal the size of the table and allow about two feet for the chairs.  Bring in any swatches, wood samples, paint samples, or even window treatment fabric when choosing your colors.

Ask For Help

Ask for help if you’re not sure what’s going to match, we would be glad to guide you in the right direction.

Today’s Trends

6/5/2010

The world of dinettes and barstools consist of a plethora of choices.  Here is a list of some of today’s hottest trends.

2-Toned Wood Colors

Common styles today consist of rich two toned wood colors.  For example, table tops and seats of chairs one color and table legs and chair legs and backs another.

Distressed Woods

Distressed woods are very popular too, although it is usually done with other distressed furniture in the room.

Mixing & Matching

Counter stools such as metal with upholstered seats are a nice touch next to a granite island or laminate surface, and can break up a room that already has a lot of wood.

Dinettes don’t necessarily need to match the stools. By choosing a different stool than a dinette it also can break up a matchy-matchy look. As long as the styles match, a room can be done tastefully (example: a french country stool should not be done with a contemporary dinette).

Dinettes can be done in metal and glass tops, metal and wood tops, or all wood. Metal colors on stools that match a light fixture can also be a nice touch.

5 Things To Do Before Shopping For Stools & Dinettes

6/5/2010

1. Choose your height.

It is important to know the height (from floor to top of counter) when looking for the right height of your stools.

  • Spectator – A 34” stool goes with a 45” to 47” counter
  • Counter – A 24-26” stool goes to a 36” counter
  • Bar – A 30” stool goes with either a 41” or 42” bar

2. Measure the length of your counter.

This will give you an idea of how many chairs/stools you can fit across. This measurement can help you when deciding if you want stools with arms or no arms.

3. Measure between areas.

Measure the area between the counter and any obstructing walls, appliances, or walkways that could hinder the moving in and out motion of your chair.

4. Bring color samples.

Colors are important when matching and coordinating. Bring samples such as window treatment swatches, cabinet stain chips or even a drawer, anything that can help in determining your color matches.

5. Give yourself enough ordering time.

If you’re moving into a new home or remodeling — allow time to complete your order. For example, if it’s 3-4 weeks until your order comes in, then you might want to start shopping for your furniture 3-4 weeks in advance, preferably longer. If your furniture arrives before you need it, we can hold it as long as long as you like. Many of our products only take 1 week to order.
